Saving Opportunities

Energy brings prosperity and makes for comfortable living! But our rising energy consumption comes with some disadvantages: environmental pollution, climate change and depletion of natural resources.

What can we do to prevent this? Firstly, we could reduce our consumption by using energy as efficiently as possible. Secondly we could make more use of renewable resources such as solar, wind, biomass, etc. Finally, as this can not be avoided, we use our fossil fuels as cleanly and efficiently as possible.

In addition to inspections on safety and functionality, Caribbean Engineering & Consultancy Company (CECC) can carry out inspections on your energy consumption.

The consumption levels of the installations CECC works with can be charted, using our technical survey and Quick Scan assessment method (see below). Based on these findings, thorough analysis and research is conducted at which point recommendations can be made to reduce or manage these levels more efficiently.

Our research is done according to the Trias Energetica-principle (see picture). For over fifteen years this 3-step plan is considered the greatest method for implementing sustainability and climate neutrality.

Energy saving can be realized by having one of CECC's consultants survey your installations. Often, we can already suggest a wealth of areas where you could improve your energy savings just on this basis. This includes suggesting more efficient cooling systems or lighting installations that could better fit your specific use case or by taking a critical look at your machine engines and their rate of propulsion.

Quick Scan

By means of the quick scan CECC can establish the areas of energy saving that exist in your building or offices and what the potential value of that saving would be. Particularly in office buildings and hotels, where cooling and illuminating is common, considerable energy-and therefore cost savings can be achieved. An CECC adviser, on location, enumerates how your energy consumption is set up in just a matter of days, then such questions as the following can be answered:

  • How can the demand for energy be reduced?
  • What alternative energy sources are suitable for this application?
  • How can energy can be reused?
  • How can spikes in your energy consumption be prevented?

Based on the results we can calculate which cost reduction methods can be employed and what the expected payback of any investment can be.

Sustainability

Whether it is a residential area, industrial area, factory or office building CECC ensures a tailored consultancy for sustainability of your energy supply. As a company, we make sure to always closely monitor all innovations in the energy space; wether that be heat recovery, solar or wind energy.

Throughout the scope of our services, sustainable solutions are the core of what we do and we always strive to provide energy-efficient solutions, benefitting both our clients and environment in the long run. CECC achieves this by taking energy consumption and the gradient course in following years into consideration from as early as the design phase of construction,

Energy Management Concept

For big energy consumers, CECC has a specialized Energy Management Team at your disposal, to advise on limiting energy consumption. The team realizes savings based on a well-founded plan that considers your level of investment and desired payback time.

Additionally, our Energy Management Team can guarantee the payback time of any new installation that we recommend, by way of an energy performance contract. This involves CECC providing remote administration for the new energy efficient installations and creating periodic reports to provide insight and analysis into the achieved savings.

Lighting

When it comes to lighting CECC works according to your preset roadmap and considers just some of the following factors when designing your energy-efficient lighting installations:

Energy source; how is the lighting powered? Is it sustainable energy such as solar or is the lighting installation connected to the public electricity grid?

Daylight; how daylight is used determines the need for artificial light. Use of sunlight will be reviewed.

Energy Costs; we review your energy usage in hours and wattage as these are the most important parameters to calculate your energy costs for lighting. Without these figures it is not possible to make an accurate analysis of your current situation and calculate monetary energy savings when changing to another kind of lighting.

Type of lighting; the conventional incandescent lamps are have taken priority in installations for a long time but now there are newer, cleaner technologies that dominate. For energy-saving lighting you can think of fluorescent lights or energy saving bulbs and for more modern installations, you may consider the newest in lighting technology - LED. For example, depending on the application and situation, LED bulbs can save you up to 90% on your energy bill when compared with incandescent bulbs.

Realization; depending on your need and the options for your situation we prepare a recommendation for you. Mentioned herein are our specific findings and our suggestions for  alternative options. This report also contains an estimate of the improvement of the (working) conditions and the potential savings. As investments will have to be made a payback time is calculated, and by employing state of the art modeling methods, your future energy and maintenance costs can be determined for your new installations.

Air conditioning

Cooling is, in the Caribbean in particular, a large consumer of energy. In many situations the air conditioning is responsible for over 60% of energy consumption. When we consider sustainability in regards to cooling, there are many benefits to be gained both for the environment and your wallet. Similarly to lighting technologies, many developments can be seen in the air-conditioning market. A new, proven technology is that of the Variable Refrigerant Flow. In short, this system uses an inverter to supply power to the compressor matching the need for cooling. Therefore the system does not always function at full load but adapts to the circumstances.

This smart technology is frequently used by CECC in both new design and in existing installations. In both applications, our focus is always on energy savings. From small adjustments (cleaning filters) to larger improvements (replacement of cooling pipes), CECC has the knowledge to achieve the greatest savings for you. Through our Quick Scan and Energy Management Concept, we can provide truly sustainable solutions and tailor-made consulting to suit yo and your business needs.
